boycures more like ‘you need to go’

Here’s an idea-A series with simultaneous Shonen and Shojo heros, where the Shonen heroes being boys are caught up in their INTENSE RIVALRY, aand the Shojo heroes hang out and do friendly things and eat parfait while the boys are wrecking themselves with training…

And when they actually fight the badguys, the girls are significantly better at it then the boys who have completely worn themselves out with constant TRAINING and VIGILANCE and RIVALRY and can’t work as a group with anyone so the girls just ignore them and save the world irregardless.

stinkytofumaiden:

Aight Temeraire fans, help me out here. I’m intrigued by the premise of the series, yes, but a huge huge draw for me right now is the fact that having dragons meant a lot of different countries were able to mostly repel European imperialism pretty well and that there’s kingdoms in Asia, Africa,…

I dunno about it sometimes, the african worldbuilding in particular seems questionable since it turns into a giant anti-slave empire below the sahara because…?  I mean, were not most slaves caught and sold by Africans?  And why would a dragon have any objections to these activities which can line it’s nest with gold and more cattle to eat?  Shouldn’t the chief problem of such a spontanous empire be internal affairs and ‘No stop holding slave markets on the cost with these damn people argh D:’

Do not get me started on why there is a super deadly dragon plague in the Americas but only after 300 years of the Colombian Exchange has it jumped the pond.  And when you consider how much of European politics and history to this point had been formed and focused by their imperialism and global reach, I’m not sure why it’s so similar to real life while every other continent is almost unrecognizable.

Maybe I’m over-thinking it, but then again I have to wonder how they feed all these dragons.  I am looking at you especially china, with your apparent dragon-pulled omnibuses.  How can you afford to keep that many dragons and not have half the nation being pastureland for the livestock to feed them?  I’ve only read the first book, but even there, I sometimes find myself wondering ‘why’.

Where is the fic where Sherlock is a bitter, near-feral Longwing the US Airforce got traded cheap because he’s grieving the death of his first Captain, Irene Adler, and Joan Watson finds herself assigned to him in hopes that he’ll accept her as his new Captain and he’s like NO I DON’T WANT A NEW…

Yessss, this is a wonderful thing.  You will probably need a lot of non-British and non-French dragons though.  I mean, the American dragon breeding program obviously started with a few English lightweights and donated french eggs, but they also probably stole from Mexicans and Native Americans everywhere they could-though I suppose in a world with dragons, the buffalo herds would be a lot smaller because of hunting pressure.  Hell, there ought to be Chinese dragons in California if this is set after 1848, I can see them joining the gold rush easily.  And then when you stirr the dragon-breeds of half the world together and let simmer for fifty years, what do you get?

For the Writers out there: Common Injuries And How To Treat Them

jellicleoverlord:

In my experience, RPers and Writers alike enjoy one thing: Making characters suffer. This little guide is supposed to help you with keeping injuries and the First Aid - in case you want to patch your character back together - realistic.
I am no medical professional, but I dare say I picked up a thing or two during my First Aider training ;)

Under read more for length! Also, trigger warnings for blood, I suppose?

So this is all well and good- but how about some medieval First Aid?  I should warn everyone that if you thought that was trigger-worthy, this is much more so.

so i really want to round up some friends and make a story based in mars

i do not know shit about mars

does anyone here know shit about mars?

You know what, this deserves some better answers.

There is air on mars-it’s thin, but it’s air. The problem is that it’s mostly C02, but no worries, total atmospheric pressure is only about 1/10000th that of sea level on earth.  It’s hardly shirt-sleeve weather either, with an average temperature of -63 Celsius.  That being said, with proper goggles and other protective gear, you could walk around, without the need for a full space suit.

At least you can, if you want to ignore the radiation levels.  No magnetic field and no ozone layer means you get the full dose of interplanetary radiation that we are shielded against on earth, It’s normally manageable-but if a coronal mass ejection is headed your way, you will have to bunker down and wait it out, preferably with a large water tank or mound of dirt/rock between you and the sun to serve as a radiation shield.

You should also watch out for the martian dust-it contains a lot of things your body isn’t really adapted to handle, and it reacts violently with organic compounds, as proved by the Viking missions.  There, a carefully hoarded canister of nutrient broth was wafted and then poured over the samples of Martian soil, causing them to violently produce oxygen and other gasses.  Since they failed to produce more when tested again later, this was almost certainly non-biological, a fact corroborated by the fact that samples of soil heated to over 200 degrees Celsius reacted identically.  What apparently happens is that the molecules of everything on Mars are so baked by radiation that they are hard up for stuff to bind to, and rich in compounds like Hydrogen Peroxide.  Given the slightest chance, Hydrogen Peroxide and it’s radical metallic companions will beat up your delicate organic molecules and steal their electrons and protons.

And despite all this, Mars is the best place to go in our solar system.

The “Collect Her” episode of The Powerpuff Girls essentially predicted Brony culture which is funny because My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic was created by Lauren Faust who was an artist/writer/director for The Powerpuff Girls

holy shit

Note that the fan was the villain of the episode but that Faust has gone out of her way to defend bronies even by the time they drew highly misogynist porn of her self-insert OC.

There’s a lesson in there. Somewhere. That may or may not have to do with Faust.

Like the villain of the episode, who trapped and kidnapped the girls to keep them all to himself, Bronies have to a large degree stolen the current generation of MLP from its original target audience by spamming the internet with child-unsafe mlp fan content, swamping appearances by creators and cast members with sketchy adults such that parents feel unsafe with their children there, and noisily attracting so much attention to themselves that it has distorted the nature of the show itself and especially its marketing.  ie, the MLP comic book, that is very much ‘by bronies for bronies’, an adult minded parody of the show’s characters rather than an adaptation that remains true to the style, spirit, or all ages nature of the source material.

And as it has grown in influence, we’ve seen insensate brony screeching change from ‘its not just for little girls’ to ‘its not for little girls at all’.  We’ve also seen vicious, ugly, herd-mindset attacks on anyone within the fandom who dares to question the way the brony herd behaves at all, up to and including death and rape threats directed at said critics.  Far from being a ‘few bad apples’ situation, we’ve seen brony musicians making death and rape threats within their music go on to be invited to perform at brony conventions specifically because of how well received their hatred and bile proved to be within the community.

Maybe Faust shouldn’t have been so supporting of the Brony community to begin with, and maybe show creators shouldn’t have gone out of their way to include explicit nods to them in the show and the marketing.  After all, bronies already liked the show and purchased the merchandise, pandering to them and encouraging them didn’t widen the show’s appeal.  Rather it just seems to have driven them to heightened levels of obnoxiousness and entitled possessiveness, and if anything they’ve in turn narrowed the show’s appeal.  They’ve certainly badly subverted its message, bringing a heavy dose of misogyny to the fandom of a show that was directed with all love and earnestness at young girls, and in doing so have brought down a cloud of ugliness and cynicism on what was so refreshing and engaging to begin with specifically for its openness and sincerity.

this got a lot more interesting since the last time I saw it
